I'm not sure what "acceptable means." I'm right at 3000 miles on my '99. I have added only once (I check daily), and that was only because I decided to keep it at the top line versus between the two. I have also changed oil, filter, and o-rings at 650 and 1500 miles, and will continue to do so every 1500 from here on out.
Are you leaking any? Any smoke? How old is the bike? Etc?
